In yet another healthy and encouraging sign that the world of crypto will eventually assume mass adoption, Manny Pacquiao, an out and out boxing legend from the Philippines has released his very own cryptocurrency. The Pac Token will allegedly soon be listed for trade on Singapore’s Global Crypto Offering Exchange.
However, Manny is certainly not the only one with celebrities apparently lining up to do the same. Could celebrity coins perhaps enjoy the same popularity and prestige as the incredibly lucrative celebrity fragrance line? Like all alt coins…only if they serve a genuine purpose that people are after and can use.
The 1st of September saw the South China Morning Post report that the Filipino boxer turned senator and singer released his own token with the financial support of private backers including ex-Liverpool and England football star Michael Owen and Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family.
Listing on Singapore-based Global Crypto Offering Exchange
The Pac token will likely be listed on Singapore’s Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX), leading the way for his supporters to buy merchandise and interact with him via social media.
GCOX Founder and CEO Jeffrey Lin supposedly stated that the token is not intended to just raise money but to develop a token ecosystem.
Pacquiao, who currently holds the World Boxing Association welterweight title, originally took on office as a senator in the Philippines in June 2016.
More celebrity plans to launch crypto tokens with GCOX
As Cointelegraph earlier revealed, American singer-songwriter Jason Derulo is likewise preparing to launch his own cryptocurrency on the platform.
GCOX’s chief communications officer Evan Ngow stated at that time: “We are committed to assembling a diverse, multi-talented array of stars at GCOX, and Jason will certainly not be the last musician to join our ranks.”
In its white paper, GCOX indicates that its technology is based on the Acclaim blockchain and is created to benefit celebrities at distinct points in their career.
Definitely a space to watch and see who enters the arena, what they do with it, and will there be any true value and substance!
